It’s all in the RIGHT number
As I started to write this blog about the recent outcome of a new Gartner report which positioned Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise in the Leaders quadrant of the Gartner, Inc. “Magic Quadrant for Corporate Telephony” authored by Sorell Slaymaker and Steve Blood and published October 21, 2014, it occurred to me that this is the first industry analyst report, just days after the business became an independent company, that places us in a “leaders” grouping.
That’s all good and nice, you’re saying, but so what?
The “what” I’d like to point out is that this is our eighth year in the leaders quadrant in this global report! Sure, having this type of track record is awesome and something to be proud of and it’s something we would share with our business partners and customers. But, when I started thinking a little deeper, I saw something that was fortuitous.
You see, it just so happens that the number eight is VERY lucky in the Chinese culture. What does that have to do with a French-based company? In case you missed the news, on October 1 this year Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise was purchased by Huaxin, a Chinese investor. Call me superstitious or crazy, but when you look closely at the beliefs the Chinese have behind the number eight, you can’t help but see the connection.
The Chinese believe that a person with an association to the number eight has strong intuition and insight, so they have the potential to explore things undiscovered. To me this reflects on the many people within Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise, our employees and business partners. We all have new opportunities ahead for us in this new company! Our success from the past will lead us to explore new opportunities for the future in innovation and new customers.
And for you skeptics, did you know, the number eight in Chinese (Mandarin) sounds similar to the word which means “prosper” or “wealth” or “fortune?” No coincidence here, IMHO.
I think you’ll agree, we believe our future, and yours, is looking bright with our eight years as a leader in corporate telephony, offering solutions for your business that makes you shine in your customers’ eyes.
